Pilot of Gossamer Albatross, 1st human-powered aircraft to cross the English Channel
For decades, I’ve been telling folks that I look forward to the day when I’m merely the first person to fly across the English Channel in a human-powered airplane, rather than the only. To my great pleasure, Anne Marsden is now proposing a competition where human-powered airplanes engage in a race across the Channel. I think this is a great aspiration, and I very much hope to someday soon be congratulating all the contestants for their accomplishments, win or lose. Human-powered flight is something that people have dreamed of for centuries, and turning those dreams into reality gives all of us something to celebrate.
